Rocinha – the biggest favela in Brazil

Rocinha has its own rules. There is normally no police in the favela. Two parties live right beside each other, a “good one” and a so-called “bad one”, and they have got used to each other. We experienced it ourselves: while trying to dig deeper into the favela’s life, we were constantly watched. Eventually, as we sat on the stairs of our friend Nélton’s house, men wearing gold chains and Rolexes confronted us, backed by automatic weapons.
